The City of Leavenworth has received an application for a Special Use Permit for the CoreCivic facility located at 100 Hwy Terrace for the purposes of operating a detention center. City Staff and the City's legal team are currently reviewing the application and anticipate working with CoreCivic's representatives on the public process. The tentative hearing dates for this application are as follows:

• Planning Commission - February 2, 2026

• 1st Consideration by the Leavenworth City Commission - February 24, 2026

The City has decided to end its television Channel 2 at the end of 2025 to focus on more modern and effective communication tools. Shutting down the television channel will also save money in the long-term.

The City of Leavenworth is advancing an exciting redevelopment for the former Leavenworth Plaza Mall site at 3400 S. 4th Street, pursuing creation of a Sales Tax and Revenue (STAR) Bond District to support a privately-led destination project. The initiative will transform a long-vacant, highly visible property into a regional draw with new shopping, dining, and entertainment options.

City offices and the Riverfront Community Center will be closed Monday, Jan. 19, 2026 for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday.

Trash will be delayed one day throughout the week of Jan. 19-24.
