City to end Channel 2 station in December 2025
November 5, 2025 | Public Information Office
The City has decided to end its television Channel 2 at the end of 2025 to focus on more modern and effective communication tools. Shutting down the television channel will also save money in the long-term.
Videotaping of City Commission meetings will continue. These are aired live on the City’s YouTube Channel, https://www.youtube.com/user/leavenworthkansas/videos or directly to City Commission videos here https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3Y5JK65fDwS2hmqacia2TshLaHvrQkGe and viewers do not need a paid subscription or a user sign-in to view the videos. Since 2013, the City of Leavenworth has used this site for sharing videos with the public. Other videotaped public meetings include the Leavenworth Planning Commission, Leavenworth Board of Zoning Appeals, Leavenworth Preservation Commission and Leavenworth Community Development Advisory Board. Visitors to the City’s website can also find video links to the corresponding YouTube videos.
Newer methods of communication show analytics to prove effectiveness in reaching residents and businesses. There were no available analytics to determine television viewership of the City’s Channel 2, and after outages staff noticed few or no complaints about the Channel being unavailable. Here are some of the ways community members can learn about City government:
- The City’s website, leavenworthks.gov reaches approximately 320,000 users each year

- A texting service, Alert Sense, in partnership with the Leavenworth County Emergency Management that began in 2025. Users can sign up for the service online here https://public.alertsense.com/SignUp/publicUser.aspx?RegionId=1422
