City Receives Special Use Permit Application From CoreCivic

The City of Leavenworth has received an application for a Special Use Permit for the CoreCivic facility located at 100 Hwy Terrace for the purposes of operating a detention center. City Staff and the City's legal team are currently reviewing the application and anticipate working with CoreCivic's representatives on the public process. The tentative hearing dates for this application are as follows:

• Planning Commission - February 2, 2026

• 1st Consideration by the Leavenworth City Commission - February 24, 2026

• 2nd Consideration by the Leavenworth City Commission- March 10, 2026

Meeting dates are subject to change, but the City will provide public notification of any changes. All meetings will be open to the public and opportunity for public comment will be provided at the required public hearing. The meetings will also be televised on the City's Youtube channel at https://www.youtube.com/@leavenworthkansas
