City Receives Special Use Permit Application From CoreCivic
The City of Leavenworth has received an application for a Special Use Permit for the CoreCivic facility located at 100 Hwy Terrace for the purposes of operating a detention center. City Staff and the City's legal team are currently reviewing the application and anticipate working with CoreCivic's representatives on the public process. The tentative dates for this application are as follows:
• Planning Commission - February 2, 2026 (includes public hearing at City Hall)
Meeting dates are subject to change, but the City will provide public notification of any changes. Meetings begin at 6 p.m. Central Time. All meetings will be open to the public. Regular City Commission meetings have a general public comment time during which citizens may speak on any subject for up to three minutes; sign-up sheets are available prior to the meeting. The meetings will also be televised on the City's Youtube channel at https://www.youtube.com/@leavenworthkansas
