ADA Ramp Rehabilitation - Downtown
The City submitted the Downtown ADA Ramp Project to the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) for consideration under the Fiscal Year 2026 Transportation Alternatives (TA) Program. In October 2024, the City was notified that the project was awarded up to $629,750 in grant funding.
The project will make ADA accessibility improvements at multiple downtown intersections within the project area, which extends from Choctaw Street to Seneca Street (south to north) and from Esplanade Avenue to Broadway Street (east to west). These upgrades are intended to improve accessibility and safety for residents and visitors traveling through the downtown area.
Under the terms of the grant, the City is responsible for project design costs, while construction and construction inspection costs are eligible for funding up to the $629,750 grant amount, with no local matching funds required. If construction costs were to exceed the grant amount, the City would be responsible for any additional costs. Fortunately, the bids for construction and construction inspection were received under the available funding, allowing the project to move forward within the grant budget.
