The City of Leavenworth, in coordination with CoreCivic, has finalized its oversight board as required by the approved Special Use Permit. We have gathered a dedicated group of professionals representing a diverse set of skills and experience that will help Leavenworth ensure compliance with the Special Use Permit's requirements, due process and humane treatment for all inmates and detainees inside the facility, and the safety of all those housed or working inside the facility. The group will be meeting next week at the CoreCivic facility, which will include a group tour of the building and campus grounds. The oversight board will have representatives from the following organizations or professional backgrounds:

  • The City of Leavenworth (including the City Manager, City Commissioners, and the Police Chief)
  • CoreCivic
  • Carceral Accountability Council
  • Sisters of Charity
  • Immigration Attorney
  • Corrections Professional
  • American Correctional Association Expert
  • Faith and Religion Community Representative
  • Three Representatives from the Leavenworth Community

At this time, please direct all inquiries related to the oversight board to Scott Peterson, City Manager, at scott.peterson@leavenworthks.gov
