At the April 28 City Commission meeting, a bid was awarded to local construction company Sands for sidewalk improvements to Pottawatomie Street from Second Street to Fourth Street.

The project will include sidewalk repair and replacement work, ADA compliant ramps, curbs and drive entrances along the north and south sides of Pottawatomie Street.

The $63,213.60 project is funded through the Community Development Block Grant, provided to the City of Leavenworth as part of its U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development funding. The CDBG Sidewalk Program focuses on a federally designated census tract in the northeast portion of our city with higher economic need and strong potential for community investment. Concentrating the program in this area maximizes its effectiveness by improving safety, accessibility, and walkability for residents who benefit most from upgraded public infrastructure.
